ADA Information

 

It is the policy of the Superior Court of California, County of Stanislaus to assure that qualified individuals with disabilities have equal and full access to the judicial system. The Court makes all reasonable efforts to meet the needs of people with impairments or disabilities. If you have a question about the Court’s ADA policies, please contact the Court's ADA Coordinator by phone at (209) 530-3111. 

Submitting ADA Request for Accommodation:

A request for ADA Accommodation can be made the following ways: 

Complete the Request for Accommodation form and send it by mail, deliver it by hand, or email it to: 

Mail: ADA Coordinator, Stanislaus County Superior Court, P.O. Box 3488, Modesto, CA 95354.

By Hand: The Clerk’s Office at any Court location.

By Email: ADACoordinator@stanct.org

  • If you are delivering the request for accommodation by hand, exterior ramps are available at each courthouse entrance.
  • If you have a disability that makes you unable to write your request for accommodation, contact the ADA Coordinator at (209)530-3111 or ADACoordinator@stanct.org for assistance.

Additionally, a request for accommodation may be made verbally to the judicial officer assigned to hear your case.

Appeal of Decision on ADA Accommodation Request:

If your ADA accommodation request is denied (in whole or in part), you can appeal the decision.  For more information on appealing a denial of your accommodation request, please see California Rules of Court, rule 1.100(g).

  • If your accommodation request was denied by a judge or commissioner, see California Rules of Court, rule 1.100(g)(2).
  • If your accommodation request was denied by someone other than a judge or commissioner, see California Rules of Court, rule 1.100(g)(1).
  • There are strict time lines involved in appealing a decision to deny an accommodation request.  Please be sure to review California Rules of Court, rule 1.100(g) to determine what those time lines are. ·

Auditory Impairments:

All courtrooms are equipped for use of portable assisted listening devices. This device is available for public use upon request. You can request this device from the courtroom bailiff.  This device is also available for use by jurors. Jurors should request a device from the jury office staff when reporting for jury duty.

 The device works by using a panel to convert sounds to a safe, invisible, infrared light which is then broadcast to the room and picked up by individual receivers with headphones. The volume is adjustable.

 ADA Grievance Procedure:

 If you believe the Stanislaus County Superior Court discriminated against you on the basis of your disability or you have a complaint about the ADA process at the Court, please review the following policy:

  • The grievance procedure is NOT a method for appealing a denial of your request for accommodation.
  • To appeal a denial of your request for accommodation, you must follow the procedure set forth in California Rules of Court, rule 1.100(g).  

Additional Resources:

The Court cannot provide legal counsel for individuals that are disabled. However, there are additional resources below that may be able to provide assistance.
